The tables were covered in red and gold Venetian style damask on which sat Fleuriste Le Tulipier’s exquisite daffodil topiary spheres. Retail Sales Surged Retail sales surged to a record high for the second straight month in April, in part due to a near-record price hike for gasoline. Retailers sold $32.8 billion worth of goods and services, up 1.7 per cent from March, identical to the increase the month before. These back-to-back gains were the strongest monthly advances since a 1.8 per cent increase recorded in March 2004. Teleflora Names New Chief Operating Officer Teleflora announced that Debbie Listman has been promoted to the position of chief operating officer. Listman has worked for Teleflora for the past 12 months and since 1989 has held a number of managerial positions within one of Teleflora’s sister companies. Most recently, she was chief operating officer of the Franklin Mint. The company also announced that Phil Kleweno, president, will be leaving the company to pursue other opportunities. AIFD and CIFD – Educational Partners Canadian Institute of Floral Design (CIFD) is pleased to announce it has joined with the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) as an educational partner. AIFD is continuing its commitment to education with their recently expanded membership category, which includes private educational institutions. Don Waltho, president of CIFD expressed his pleasure, as CIFD will now join some of the best educational facilities in North America. CIFD will be the only Educational Partner in Canada. 2006 Canadian Florist Conference in Toronto The 2006 FTD Canadian Florist Conference will take place on Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22, at the InterContinental Toronto Centre in downtown Toronto. The FTD Canadian Florist Conference (formerly the Ontario Florist Conference) will include education programs and networking opportunities geared at helping florists increase revenues and reduce costs. |
