Manitoba will see two minimum wages increases in 2009

Canadian retailers face a bleak New Year
Jan. 5, 2009 - Malls across the country teemed with shoppers this past week, enticed by boxing-day discounts that were even greater than usual after Christmas. But while first impressions of boxing-week sales are optimistic in terms of volume, the heavy discounting putting pressure on margins together with depressed demand in the forecast suggests Canadian retailers may be about to join their U.S. counterparts in what looks to be a bleak new year. Study reveals that shoppers are finding malls 'boring'
Jan. 5, 2009 - A new survey by the Baker Retailing Initiative at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the Toronto-based Verde Group says four of the five most common problems in malls reflect a need for elements that encourage greater exploration, such as a wider range of restaurants, diverse portfolio of stores, and a general sense of newness or uniqueness.

Holiday shoppers sought out online reviews: Nielsen
Jan. 5, 2009 - Nielsen Online, a service of the Nielsen Company, announced that 81 per cent of online shoppers have read product or retailer reviews by other customers when they did their holiday shopping this Christmas.
