| The cost of rising fuel prices |

June 16, 2008 - In the past few months, I think it's safe to say we've all become accustomed to looking at ever-changing gas station signs and uttering a painful groan. And the climbing pump prices don't only affect how much we pay to fill up our tank, they also trickle down to other areas in our lives, including the day to day business operations.

June 5, 2008 - One of the hot topics at the Floral Summit 2008 design show was the rainbow rose. Since they were first introduced at Hortifair in 2006, the roses are becoming more available to retailers. The vibrant petals have polarized those in the floral industry – you either love them or wish you’d never laid eyes on them.

Is the customer always right? |

I just
finished reading an article in Nova Scotia's The Chronicle Herald that
explored how the age old mantra 'the customer is always right' may
actually be bad for business. The article looks at how blindly
following this policy makes employees unhappy and give pushy customers
an unfair advantage. Is the customer always right at your centre? How
do you deal with cranky shoppers?

April 15, 2008 - A recent article
in the Globe and Mail told the story of TJ Walker, a man who sells
flowers on the streets of Vancouver and helped found the Flowers for
Food program.
The flowers that he sells are donated by Make Scents, a Vancouver-area
flower distributer. The company donates damaged blooms, bouquets that
aren't good enough for retailers to sell or flowers that were returned
to the wholesaler because retailers were unable to sell them.
