A recent article in the Globe and Mail’s Décor section touted the new
levels of realism that can be found in the artificial flowers and
permanent botanicals on the market today.
The Nov. 24 edition of the newspaper featured an article by Amy Verner that references several florists and discusses why permanent and silk flowers are becoming more popular in the world of home décor. One reason is because floral design experts now have a hand in designing the permanent arrangements. There’s also been an emphasis on presenting artificial flowers as real flowers by adding artificial water or wrapping the silk flowers in brown paper and raffia. The long Christmas season also lends itself to artificial outdoor and indoor plants as they don’t have to be replaced halfway through the season. The final trend that’s influencing customers to go fake is the higher number of apartment and condo-dwellers.
