Facebook – A New Way to Send Flowers?
1-800-FLOWERS is joining up with Facebook.com to allow users to send virtual flowers to friends and in return get real world rewards. Facebook is a social online network where members can communicate with friends, post pictures, join groups and participate in a variety of games and applications.

1-800 FLOWERS recently linked up with Loyalty Labs, a company that develops online loyalty programs, to develop a Facebook program called “Gimme Love.” The program will work with the existing 1-800-FLOWERS Fresh Rewards loyalty program.

By adding the “Gimme Love” application, Facebook users become a Fresh Rewards member and can send virtual flowers to friends, who can then choose to become Fresh Rewards members as well. The more friends you refer to the “Gimme Love” program, the more Fresh Rewards points you receive, which can be used to buy flowers in real life. The company is looking to further develop the program so that Facebook users will be able to send real flowers to online friends in the future.

Another company, called Social Flowers, has already found a way to do just that. By adding the “Social Flowers” application, Facebook users can order real flowers through the program and have them sent to an online friend. Once the sender has chosen the flowers and pays for them using a credit card, Social Flowers then e-mails the recipient to let them know they have been sent real flowers. The recipient provides Social Flowers with a receiving address, and the flowers are sent.
