The report found an increase in amount of sales brought in by retail florists. Last year, Statistics Canada counted $175.5 million in retail florist sales, up from $171 million in 2005. Wholesalers nearly doubled these sales, making $332.3 million in 2006 compared to $322.7 million in 2005.

On the greenhouse side of things, growers in the flowers and plant category reported $1.52 billion in the sales of flowers and plants last year. Wholesalers were the largest purchasers of these products followed by the public. Potted plants represented the biggest seller, bringing in $679 million in sales. Popular potted plants included geraniums and tropical varieties. Gerberas and tulips topped the popular cut flowers list.
