Halifax – From start to finish, disappointment is the
only word to describe budget day, said the CFIB, which graded this
year’s budget a C.
On the budget itself, CFIB delivered more than 1,000 faxes to the finance minister asking that government accelerate the indexation of personal income tax brackets – to end bracket creep. The government ignored this demand and won’t end this unfair treatment until 2011.
Government also pulled in poor marks for increased spending, particularly in the area of health. As well, government announced an across-the-board increase in fees of seven per cent.
Some of the budget’s few bright spots include ongoing support for government’s better regulation initiative and a reduction in red tape. Government actually measured how much red tape there is.
It estimates businesses collectively spend a whopping 615,000 hours per year filling out forms.
