Canadian Florist magazine was invited to attend
Collectione Preview Spring & Summer trade show in Frankfurt,
Germany this past June. The show revolved around the latest trends for
the upcoming 2007 spring and summer season.
International buyers from 54 countries attended the show to gather information and place orders. The majority of the visitors were wholesalers, chain retailers, department stores, garden centers, and do-it-yourself centers, all of who were looking for the must-have items that their customer will be looking for next year. Collectione, which previewed in 2005, is one of many trade shows hosted by Messe Frankfurt. The diverse product range from the 351 exhibitors from 34 nations, also offered the 6,000 visitors a glimpse into the future trends for the garden, floral and giftware industries.
Colour Trends:
Products in intense shades of yellow, green, orange, and blue could be found throughout the show. Exhibitors are also predicting a popular trend in pastels including a variety of lilacs, pinks, apricots, and delicate greens. Vibrant and bold shades of blue, red, yellow, and green also continue to be popular.
Natural Elements:
The European market has always catered toward giftware made with natural and organic materials and the new products for 2007 follow these trends. Eggshells, twigs, bark, natural fibers, feathers, sisal rope, coconut shells, seashells, coffee beans, and pebbles are a few of the materials being used to add texture to products. Birch bark pots, wall sconces made of twigs, feather wreaths, rope vases – the creativity was incredible.
Floral Packaging:
When it comes to floral packaging, floral motifs and colourful patterns are the latest rage and everything matches. Paper bags, wrapping paper, tissue paper, ribbon, and bows – everything is colour coordinated with matching patterns.
Under the Sea:
A huge trend in garden giftware across Europe follows an under the sea theme. Products displays on a backdrop of blues and whites, with fishing nets, sand, seagulls, and shells could be found throughout the show.
Figurines of mermaids and pirates were placed in detailed displays with boats and lighthouses. Fish comprised of seashells and pebbles hung from the walls.
Animal Collections:
It’s only natural that cute little critters should be displayed throughout the garden during the spring and summer months. It wasn’t surprising that bunnies in all shapes and sizes could be found throughout the spring and summer show, and similar to our Canadian market, frogs are making an incredible comeback. Other popular creatures included potbellied chickens and roosters, dimpled ladybugs, whimsical sheep, ducks with goofy grins, and colourful fish.
The next Collectione will be held June 17 to 20, 2007 in Frankfurt, Germany. For more information, visit www.collectione.messefrankfurt.com.
