The Colombian Association of Flower Exporters, Asocolflores, has expressed its pleasure with the conclusion of negotiations earlier this year for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States. This agreement will allow Colombian flowers to continue to access the U.S. market and supply consumers with products that represent about 170,000 tons of flowers per year and more than $770 million in exports.
Asocolflores says that with the agreement, Colombia
floriculture will not only consolidate its access to the U.S. market,
but will also have better conditions to compete, at the same level,
with other flower suppliers.
The FTA will also contribute to the Colombian flower industry’s ability
to continue to support the nearly 200,000 direct and indirect jobs
created by this important sector of the Colombian agricultural economy.
