Feative Holiday Blooms

Written by Donald Yim, AIFD, CPFD
Donald Yim AIFD, CPFD, immigrated to Canada in 1994. Leaving behind an established career in Hong Kong, he brought over a vibrant background of his own creative philosophy and an extensive education from the American Floral Service (AFS) in Hong Kong.   Also accompanying him was his teaching diploma which he had earned in his early 20s. His career path has been benchmarked by numerous awards; now testimony to his 17 years of experience.

In 1999, Donald joined West Van Florist in West Vancouver, B.C.  He quickly became head designer and has managed the department for the fourth year running. Over the years, he has taught and been on display during demo shows in various parts of the world including Hong Kong, Vancouver, New Mexico, Seattle and Philadelphia. He also participated in internationally renowned shows such as the 2005 Philadelphia Flower Show and the 2005 AIFD National Symposium.

Donald won 1st place at the People’s Choice Awards in 2001, 2002 and 2003. He also won the high profile Flowers Canada Industry Choice Award during 2001 and 2002. These awards complement his past achievements in Hong Kong.  In both 1993 and 1994, Donald was the recipient of multiple awards during the annual Hong Kong Flower Show, held by the Regional and Urban Council of Hong Kong.

Donald now works as a freelancer on many planes, as a show designer, design consultant, personal trainer and mentor. To see more of Donald’s designs, visit www.donaldyim.com.
