Flora’s Forum
Thanks to all of you who took the time to send in your answers for last month’s question. I was delighted to hear how many of you had pets living and working in your flower shop.
• Joey the budgie and Buttercup the white cockatiel live at Smith/McKay Florist & Stoney Creek Flowers Shop in Stoney Creek, Ont. These full-time feathered florists are a delightful attraction for visiting customers. Joey who is a linguistically talented budgie can be heard saying “Smith/MacKay.”
• Loki the beagle sits at the front step of Foxgloves Flowers in Victoria, B.C., and greets the customers as they walk in the flower shop. This friendly canine isn’t against accessorizing for floral holidays. She caused quite a stir on Valentine’s Day by wearing a bright red bow on her collar with a Valentine’s card that said, “Will you be my Valentine?” A hard working employee, Loki certainly earns her keep and all she expects in return is a belly rub and maybe a cookie or two.
• Gale’s Florist in Regina, Saskatchewan has three pets working in the shop. A four-month old Boston terrier named Luca, a two-month-old Chihuahua named Baker and a cat named Mozart who was found outside in a trashcan. Although Mozart does have a family that lives down the street, he prefers to spend his time in the flower shop.
Send me your answers before July 14th to make sure they’ll be published in the August/September issue of Canadian Florist.
