Joel Marc Frappier MFA, CAFA, WFC

Written by Joel Marc Frappier MFA, CAFA, WFC
Under the direction of Joel Marc Frappier, executive director and head designer, La Maison de fleurs in Gatineau has  become a well-known and successful fleuristerie in western Quebec.
To date, Frappier and La Maison de Fleurs’ clientele include such stars  as Céline Dion, Shania Twain, Lara Fabian, Prime Minister Tony Blair and President Vincente Fox (Mexico). They are the official florist to the City of Ottawa and City of Gatineau, and Joel Marc was most recently requested for the 2004 Canada Day celebrations and has been the official florist to the renowned Canadian Tulip Festival for five consecutive years.

Joel Marc studied at the University of Flowers “Formafleur” in Lyon, France. His regular work includes the prestigious Fairmont Chateau Laurier, the newly opened Hilton and Casino du Lac Leamy, along with several other major hotels across the country. Joel Marc’s abilities as a teacher and a demonstrator are known across Canada, Portugal, the Netherlands, France and the U.S.

Joel Marc was Grand Laureate at the Bal des fleurs and earned the right to represent Canada at La Bataille des fleurs in Nice, France, where he received first place during the Carnival de Nice. In 2002, he received an International Laureate title at the International Floralies and a second International title that same year at the International Floral Ball.

His work has been displayed at the ABC and Times Square Studio, the Gala Event at the La Maison de la Culture, the nomination ceremony for Canada’s new Governor General, the 2003 Juno Awards, and countless other venues. In May 2004, Joel Marc received an award from the Chamber of Commerce. He was also invited to represent Canada at the World Flower Council Summit in Latvia. In September 2005, Frappier represented and was the spokesperson for Canada at the Summit in Indonesia. His flair and passion for the world of flowers, along with his amazing artistic vision, have been the cornerstone of his development during his long and rewarding career.

A Swirl of Emotions
This design uses insertion work – vase upon vase – with the initial container being contained with broken glass, mirror balls, and anything else to give more depth and luminosity to the floral structure.  Then bring on the process of intake deprivation to allow for stem manipulation and the swirl is easily attainable.  With no stem breakage, you can ply and loop the products as you choose; peeling calla lilies will allow for this with greater ease.  Bring it all together by inserting more broken glass in the composition – a Joel Marc Frappier signature.

Candy and flowers – why not?  This arrangement offers two of the best gifts you can give.  Pockets of roses with aspidistra funnels are dispersed throughout.  Textured aspidistra leaves give density and weight to the structure.  The design is mounted on a steel structure that sits in the candy vase.  A variety of three tones of pink roses, along with the green anthuriums, create drama for any candy lover.
