Mother's Day statistics from the FPO
April 17, 2008 - With Mother's Day only a few weeks away, the Flower Promotion Organization has released some fun facts about the floral holiday.

These facts include:
  • Mother's Day accounts for 25 per cent of all floral holiday sales (equal to Valentine's Day)
  • Mother's Day sales are composed from cut flowers (45 per cent), outdoor bedding and hanging baskets (38 per cent) and flowering houseplants and foliage (17 per cent)
  • 64 per cent of Mother's Day purchases are made by women, 36 per cent by men
The National Retail Federation's 2007 Mother's Day study has revealed that, in the U.S.:
  • Mother's Day accounts for $15.7 billion in retail sales
  • Floral sales accounted for $2.3 billion or 14.4 per cent of all Mother's Day spending
  • 72.4 per cent of Mother's Day purchasers bought some floral products at an average retail of $27.59
  • Mother's Day shoppers bought for mother/stepmother (62.5 per cent), wife (22.2 per cent), daughter (8.7 per cent), grandmother (8.3 per cent), sister (6.6 per cent) and other relative (12.1 per cent)
  • 37.5 per cent made these purchases at special retailers (including florists)
