From the first publication in 1905 to this celebratory issue you now hold in your hands, Canadian Florist magazine has been there to document the pivotal events, people, places, and trends in the floral industry in Canada.
There are times when the past and future are brought wonderfully close together – this project was one of those rare moments. When reviewing the past issues of the magazine, one develops a deep respect for the former publishers and editors of Canadian Florist. Their continued efforts to keep the industry informed have created a respected institution.
The entire collection of Canadian Florist magazine was preserved at the Royal Botanical Garden’s (RBG) library in Burlington, Ont. A special thank you to Stephen Oliver, chief operating officer and Marie Minaker, volunteer librarian at the RBG, who gave us access to the archives. We would also like to thank the countless individuals who eagerly shared their stories of florists who are no longer with us. Without their colourful memories, this issue would not have been possible. This Anniversary issue is a tribute to the dedicated industry leaders and individuals who have accomplished so much during the past one hundred years.
