Kathy Mustard AIFD, CAFA
A renowned designer and instructor, Kathy Mustard graduated with the Highest Achievement Award from the Flowers Canada (Ontario) School of Floral Design. In 1983, she was the Canadian representative to the FTD Interflora World Cup Competition and placed 9th in the world. She was the first North American designer to take part in the International Flora Com Congress in Athens, Greece. In 1993, Kathy was indoctrinated into The American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD), and in 1997 into the Canadian Academy of Floral Art (CAFA). She is the president of Creative Floral Concepts, a FTD design commentator and instructor, and a design instructor for the Flowers Canada (Ontario) School of Floral Design.
Marijke Engel AIFD, CAFA
A committed member of Flowers Canada - Toronto Chapter, Marijke Engel had the honour of being board president from the years 2000 - 2002. Upon her induction into CAFA in 1997, Marijke also became a member of CAFA’s board of directors, and was board secretary for six years. Her induction into AIFD in 2001 was the realization of a goal set years before as a student at Seneca Collage. In seeking to gain experience in the floral industry, Engel has worked in many aspects of design. She has presented in several design shows, won numerous design awards and has taught floral design at the College level.
Patricia Patrick AIFD, CAFA
Patricia Patrick received her floral training in England. She was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) in 1987 and currently serves on the board of directors for the
Northeast Chapter. She is a founder and past president of the Canadian Academy of Floral Art (CAFA). Patrick is Canada’s design representative to the World Flower Council and has presented programs for them in Amsterdam, the Philippines, Latvia and this year in Jakarta, Indonesia. She is also a freelance designer and has given floral demonstrations coast to coast in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and Europe.
Derrick Foss CAFA
For over 20 years, Derrick Foss has been active in the Canadian floral industry. In 1998, he was inducted into CAFA and he served as president in 2000. He also served as a director with the Toronto chapter of Flowers Canada. Foss has designed at numerous Canada Blooms seminars, Flowers Canada demonstrations, and national bridal shows.
He has won many accolades for his design talents, including first and second place in the CAFA competitions at Canada Blooms in 1997 and 1998. He also represented his district 12F at the Maple Leaf Cup competition in January 2000. Foss lives in Brampton, Ontario.
Neville MacKay
A respected floral designer, Neville MacKay is well known throughout the floral industry and the east coast of Canada for his flair, quality of workmanship, his knowledge of flowers, and his all-round ‘presence.’ He has had the opportunity to work and train with floral masters from all around the world. He owns two flower shops – My Mother’s Bloomers and Neville – both located in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Neville has appeared on CBC radio and TV, ATV, BT, HGTV, Global, WTN, and most recently on CTV’s Good Morning Canada. He has designed florals for celebrities including: Kelsey Grammer, Princess Ann, Glenn Close, Rod Stewart, Celine Dion, Beau Bridges, Jean Stapleton, Jane Curtain, Sissy Spacek, Judy Dench, Sela Ward, and Mia Sorvino.
Kevin Young AIFD, CPFD, CAFA
Kevin is originally from Trinidad and currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has been in the floral industry for over 22 years. He is currently a freelance designer and instructor. Young has been a feature designer at many wholesale shows across Canada and the U.S. His work has been featured in publications, art galleries and social events. He was inducted into AIFD in 1991 and has been an active member of their Northwest Chapter. He was one of the design stage presenters at the AIFD National Symposium 2005, in Seattle, WA. He is highly committed to the promotion of design education and awareness and the appreciation of flowers in our daily lives.
Harvey Pope AIFD, CAFA
A graduate from the Ontario College of Art, Harvey Pope has over 45 years experience in the floral industry. A design consultant to the floral industry, he is an accomplished floral commentator and judge, as well as an experience teacher. Pope resides in Toronto, Ontario.
Stephanie Walker CAFA
Designing for over eight years, Stephanie Walker was inducted into CAFA in 2003. She currently volunteers as a Skills CDA Floristry Technical Committee member and is a member of the Winnipeg Flower Arrangers. She designs at Floralscape Design & Gift inc.
and Labelle Florist. Walker designed era-appropriate bridal bouquets for “Modern’s 150 Years of Bridal Fashion” show in 2000. She lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Sophie Gonthier AIFD, CAFA
A floral consultant, freelance designer and instructor, Sophie Gontheir lives in Mathieu du Parc in Quebec. She travels all over, instructing in European floral art, and adapting her programs to the specific needs of all the florists she teaches.
Gary Li AIFD, CAFA
With an education in Crop Science from the University of Guelph, Gary Li was primarily a self-taught designer focused on doing wedding flowers aside from his studies. He trained with Lyon Formafleur. He was the recipient of the CAFA cup in 1997 at the ‘Professional Florist’ competition during Canada Blooms. He lives in Mississauga, Ontario.
