C&D DESIGN Portfolio: May 2005

Eileen Holton,

Written by Eileen Holton
Eileen Holton, CAFA
With a background in architectural design, Eileen Holton made the transition to retail florist in 1982. Working alongside six dedicated employees in her bustling Port Hope, Ontario, shop, Eileen’s love for flowers is overshadowed only by her passion for wedding flower design. In 2004, Eileen and the staff at Holton Flowers were invited to create the floral settings for over eighty wedding celebrations. Eileen's reputation as a perfectionist, bent on creating designs perfect for each individual bride, has clients travelling from far afield to retain her services.
In 2002, Eileen was inducted into the Canadian Academy of Floral Art. Eileen continues to hone her talents by attending workshops and seminars throughout the United States and Canada.

dp1This free-form design takes on a natural life of it’s own with sweeping branches of blossoming forsythia and willow. Set into a willow armature, the branches become the background for an array of spring blooms including French tulips, yellow lilies, and bells of Ireland. Aspidistra and monstera leaves add smooth texture and balance, making this a perfect arrangement for any outdoor celebration.

dp2 Built to resemble a more natural hand-tied bouquet, this whimsical design is actually a combination of fresh, dried, and artificial flowers built into a traditional floral foam bouquet holder.  Monstera leaves frame the base of the holder, giving it a hand-tied appearance.  Elegant blooms of cymbidium orchids are nestled below two fresh green anthurium blooms.  The throats of the orchids draw colour from the pink pepper berries clustered at their base.  The entire bouquet is framed by blades of lily grass and hanging amaranthus.

dp3 A striking combination of hot pink and tangerine make this simple design of sweet peas and roses a bouquet with lively personality.  The rose stems are inserted randomly amongst the sweet peas, their stems wrapped in a satiny ribbon of complimentary colours.  A collar of bear grass adds movement to the design while a glass-beaded garland winds its way through the flower blossoms, catching the light of summer.
