According to the Society of American Florists, some U.S. florists are finding ways to cope with escalating gas prices. The organization talked with Art Conforti of Beneva Flowers in Sarasota, Fla. who says the situation has caused him to work smarter.
Conforti says they only make deliveries to a neighbouring town once a day and if an order comes in after the delivery is made, they wire the order to a shop in that town. He says he doesn't view neighbouring shops as enemies, but instead as allies.
The SAF's online gasoline survey reveals that 63 per cent of respondents say they coordinate deliveries and make fewer trips to save gas money while 58 per cent have increased delivery fees. Fourty-eight per cent will call customers before making a delivery or will ask permission to leave the orders.
