 Susanne Law, AIFD, CPFD
will be one of the newest members of AIFD when she’s officially
inducted into program in Chicago this July. Susanne has experience in
retail, ran a wedding consultant business for 10 years, served as
president of the CPFD for two years and has taught an accredited floral
design program at Surrey College in B.C. She is teaching and
demonstrating at various venues in Vancouver and has worked with Hitomi
Gilliam, aifd, on numerous floral projects. Most recently, Susanne
joined Design 358, a new concept floral event and management company.

ALWAYS REMEMBER
A different take on the traditional triangle arrangement so popular for
sympathy work. The grouping and draping of the burgundy calla lilies
helps to anchor and soften the design. The burgundy callas also add
some relief to the groupings of the flax, seeded eucalyptus, foxtail
and Carolina sapphire. The ornithigalum adds a beautiful accent and
ties in nicely with the white in the flax leaves. |

AT PEACE
This casket spray has an emphasis on the gentle flowing horizontal
lines in the design and reflects a peaceful feeling. The green
cymbidium’s colours transition well with the burgundy calla lilies and
burgundy ti leaves. The use of the yellowy green of the foxtail, bells
of Ireland and green hypericum helps to brighten the design and create
movement. |

FINDING STRENGTH
The easel spray design has a dominant vertical and downward line
created by the equisetum. There is a soft rhythm and tension in the
play between the green anthuriums and white phalaenopsis orchids. The
flax leaves add drama by cutting across the design.

LOVING THOUGHTS
The vase design showcases repetition of a dynamic inverted triangle.
The triangles are created by inserted an 18-gauge wire into the
equisetum. Multiple equisetum triangles added to the vase at different
angles create depth. An armature of curly willow helps to secure the
equisetum to the vase. This design demonstrates how red roses in a vase
can still be used for sympathy designs. |
