Nov/Dec 2008: By Design Exclusive
Written by Amanda Ryder
In the November/December issue of Canadian Florist magazine, we featured Emily Mays in our By Design portfolio. Here's a web exclusive look at the designs that we couldn't fit into the magazine.

Bio:

emilymaysEmily Mays got her floral start in1998 as a junior designer with Botaneco Interiorscapes in Halifax. She pursued her passion through the Canadian Institute of Floral Design program, studied advanced design at the Judith Blacklock Flower School in London, England and also worked as a program co-ordinator at the CIFD education faculty. Emily has also participated as a creative team member for the 2005 and 2006 FTD Conferences and returned to England in 2006 to develop her style at Paula Pryke’s Flower House in London. Most recently, she could be found enriching her skills at the New York Botanical Gardens and the Jane Packer Flower School.  She was a guest educator for the Judith Blacklock Flower School at the 2008 Chelsea Flower Show and in 2009 is pleased to be invited for induction into the American Institute of Floral Designers. Until then, she is occupied growing the corporate and social client list of Emily Mays Creative Floristry.

Grand Luxe:

grandluxeInspired by lavish tablescapes where vases are covered with fabric and ribbon to compliment linens. The absence of greenery allows the plush contour of the hydrangeas and roses to blend seamlessly with the velvety cylinder. Ideal for the spa bathroom, the contrast of the chocolate ribbon and fiddleheads is also the perfect accent to any room housing leather or wood furnishing of the same richness.

Chef at Heart:

chefatheartThis kitchen garden is a gourmet’s delight contained in a bamboo box fitting neatly into an unassuming corner. The casual blend of artichoke hearts, bells of Ireland, wheat, fiddleheads, roses, mint and lime make for a an accessible and freshly scented design for home or bistro alike. A larger version looks great in a Clementine orange box.
