Sandra Kaiser, CAFA

Sandra Kaiser of Toronto got her start in the floral industry at the tender age of 12. Sandra grew up in a flower shop and assisted in the early days by making boxes and cleaning the fridge. She’s worked her way up to become the co-owner of one of Toronto’s oldest florists, Astra Florists. Sandra credits her knowledge of the industry to the many mentors she has encountered along the way. She is grateful to longtime friend, business partner and teacher Susan Sottile for all her guidance and encouragement. This past October, Sandra was inducted into CAFA. For this portfolio, Sandra created designs for prom and graduation.

A limelight stealer
This necklace is an eye-catcher that’s the perfect final touch to that little black dress. The braided wire acts as a sturdy base and sets the shape for the necklace. A beaded ribbon creates the flowing look and green orchids and feathers serve as a finishing accent that will make heads turn.

Blooming tote
This flora-fied handbag can be made to match any prom outfit. A brick of foam, covered in fabric, is used to create the body of the purse and the same material is folded over wire to create the handle. The purse is adorned with feathers and calla lilies, both of which are neatly tucked in to create a unique clutch perfect for her.

Funky feathers
Don’t forget complementing designs for the perfect co-ordinating couple. The boutonniere matches the necklace (on opposite page) in both colour and funkiness. The orchid is trimmed with green crystals, leaves and feathers to synchronize the design with his partner’s necklace.

Gilded gardenia
Move over “Miss Petite!” to the new wave of wristlets. The accessory adds style to an event outfit with a detailed bracelet and flowers. The wristlet is created using beaded wire ribbon and finished off with two preserved gardenias.
