Halifax florist plays King for a day
Written by Amanda Ryder
Halifax florist Neville MacKay of My Mother’s Bloomers took part in the third annual Children’s Wish Foundation Princess Tea Party at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax on Mother’s Day weekend.

MacKay co-hosted the event with CTV’s Live@5 host Liz Rigney. The event attracted over 800 guests outfitted in dresses, tiaras, wings, gowns and jewels.

The goal of the event was to raise enough money to send a young girl named Haley to meet Cinderella at Walt Disney World. Her wish was granted at the end of the event after a day fit for royalty. The convention centre was decorated with colourful flowers (of course!), organza, lights, balloons and the royal attendees were served pink cupcakes, tea and juice.

When it first began three years ago, the Princess Tea Party was a story-telling and sing-a-long with a group of little girls and their moms. The day has since grown to include a sold-out musical production, a silent auction, face and nail painting and a hair gel and tattoo station for the young princes in attendance.

“This was an incredible way to spend Mother's Day, and although I was tired after a long week, it is totally invigorating to see the life and energy there! And, I get to dress up, have fun with the kiddies, and experience the love and joy of a child with their family!” says MacKay of the event. He’s already signed on for next year’s Princess Tea Party.
