Slingflower: a social networking florist
Written by Amanda Ryder
Slingflower is a self proclaimed “social media-powered flower delivery service” based in Boise, Idaho that operates exclusively on Facebook and Twitter. Those interested in purchasing flowers from Slingflower can’t walk into a shop and pick from a cooler or shelves of bouquets. They can’t even call into the business landline (which doesn’t exist.)

Instead, founder Jennifer Reynolds posts one unique bouquet (the flowers are sourced from local growers in advance) at a time via Twitter and sells that design until the quantities run out. Customers must go online to order. The flowers are delivered for free to the office or workplace of the person who ordered the bouquet so they can deliver them to the recipient in person.

Slingflower has been operating for only three weeks and Reynolds is honest and upfront on her blog. The business isn’t a spin-off from an existing floral shop, Reynolds isn’t interested in a retail store and for now, Slingflower serves three areas in Idaho. She also writes:

  • No, we’re not trying to get rich quick.
  • Yes, it is locally owned (by me, Jennifer Reynolds).
  • No, you can’t call me for custom order (or really any other reason).
  • Yes, we know this is a crazy idea.
  • No, we don’t have a set schedule of when we’re going to be delivering flowers.
  • Yes, we are going to offer them fairly regularly.
  • No, we don’t want your pity.
  • OK, yes, we do want your pity — well at least a shot at selling you some flowers.

The business has attracted more than 110 fans on Facebook and 175 Twitter followers. To learn more about the unique company, visit www.slingflower.com.
