Pamela Sheppard’s, cafa, career in the floral industry all began with a part-time, after-school job. Pamela’s first employer and mentor, June Morgan, recognized her natural flair for design and encouraged her to enrol in the Flowers Canada School of Floral Design. Finishing the course at the top of her class left Pamela wanting to advance her skills even further, so she set her sights on being inducted into the Canadian Academy of Floral Art. At the age of 25 this goal was obtained making her the youngest member of CAFA. Pamela is currently showcasing her design skills at The Flower Place in Barrie, Ont. This portfolio focuses on sympathy arrangements. “The best way to show tribute to someone you have lost in a floral arrangement is to bring through the personality of that person. I try to get a better understanding of the lost loved one and incorporate something that is unique to them,” says Pamela.

Refreshingly Beautiful
Tropical flowers such as ginger and bird of paradise can create an exquisite sympathy tribute. Sliced limes and carved oranges add extra flavour to the design. The sleek bamboo container and fan show how you can draw in a cultural element.

Country Chic
This arrangement shows a modern twist on a down home country feel. The snapdragons, asters and solidago bring in a wildflower element along with the miniature hay bales that keep it charming.
The gerbera daisies and folded leaves give the design an edge.

Victorian Melody
Say farewell to a friend with this beautiful arrangement. Soft pink and peach garden roses framed with curly willow and feathers add flair to the classic easel spray. The Boston fern leaves pull in an elegant touch.

English Garden
Light shades of pink from the stargazer lilies and gerbera daisies combine nicely with the darkness of the deep purple stock and create contrast in this stylized composition. The bundles of bear grass frame the arrangement while a small gerbera daisy corsage at the base of the vase draws the eye down.
