In May, the CPFDA (Canadian Professional Floral Designers Association) held its fifth annual symposium, themed “Extreme Makeover – Floral Edition” at the UFG Auction Gallery in Burnaby, B.C. Our challenge this year was to combine floral design and interior décor to showcase how we can make our living space more attractive with floral magic.
Tracy Bell CPFD, president of CPFDA, cleverly orchestrated the special design team and a behind the scene team and we’re grateful to have loyal sponsors supporting us to make our event successful. In the first segment, we set up four different “before” scenes; a living room, dining room, bed room and backyard for designers to create “after” scenes on the stage. Lindsay Campbell CPFD completely transformed the living room – scattered with kid’s toys – to a nice, calm, summery space in teal blue, white and lime green. Ellen Lalji CPFD and Ioan Pasca CPFD updated a dark and dreary dining room to a most welcoming dining room using popular lime green and hot pink and red to punch it up. Kevin Young AIFD, CPFD, CAFA dramatically changed the bedroom using with his talents in flowers and fabric. Bell and Ella Ha CPFD started with typical white plastic back yard furniture then transformed the space to an updated, fun patio.
After a short break, Sam Solis AIFD, CPFD and Heather Logan CPFD were challenged to a flower shop makeover. They shared lots of great tips how to quickly create an updated and welcoming, trendy look in your existing spaces. In addition to design seminars, attendees were treated to door prizes, a 50/50 draw and a sponsor display. Our group was happy with the show’s attendance – we even attracted a group of florists from Kitimat, B.C, located five hours away. Our president, Bell commented on the event, saying: “I am continuously impressed by the incredible talent in our association and the willingness of our members to share their expertise. The audience was impressed by our professionalism, creative talent and ability to captivate and educate.”
