Design demos come to Garden & Florist Expo

Landscape Ontario’s Floral & Garden Expo will be showing off its flower power this October with a variety of floral demonstrations by expert industry professionals. The show runs October 20 – 21, at the Toronto Congress Centre and will feature the latest in floral trends and design.

Some of the exciting floral events at the show include:

Cocktails & Floral Designs - A tribute to the Canadian Academy of Floral Art (CAFA)

Featured Designers: Els Tuinessen, President, Floral Productions and Sabine Calame, CAFA

Presented by: Landscape Ontario, Flowers Canada (Ontario) Inc. and PickOntario

Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009

7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Waxman Room

Be intrigued and amazed as you watch spectacular floral creations emerge from the hands of Master Floral Designers Els Tuinessen and Sabine Calame. Retailers, florists and floral designers are invited for cocktails and the design presentations.

The event is complimentary for members of the Canadian Academy of Floral Art (CAFA). Tickets are $35 dollars for non-members and $25 for students who register by October 5th. Tickets are $50 for anyone registering at the door on Tuesday, October 20th. Complimentary admission to Garden & Floral Expo is included with each advanced ticket purchase. Tickets may be purchased at www.gardenexpo.ca.

Green for Life Stage – Everything is Coming Up Flowers

Eco Flowers – Past, Present & Future

Professional floral designer, Scott Graham, runs a Eco Flora, an online florist site that exclusively offers ecologically grown flowers with a contemporary design style. Harvey Pope is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and has over 45 years of experience in the floral industry. A design consultant to the floral industry, Harvey is an accomplished floral commentator, judge and experienced teacher.

Barbara Hensel has been an international floral design teacher, judge & consultant to the floral industry for 40 years. Barbara has served as the Director of Flowers Canada - Toronto Chapter, and has sat on the Advisory Board for Seneca College. She has been a product developer and buyer in Asia, and has specialized in Christmas displays for garden centers, retail shops and residences. Barbara was the 2009 Recipient of the Helen Blakey Award for her dedication to the industry and community service.

Floral Design Trends: What you need to know for 2010

Derrick Foss’s designs are key features in industry showrooms, corporate towers and society events. His creations garner high acclaim for being integral to the setting and not merely a backdrop. A designer for over 25 years, Derrick has created pieces for royalty, heads of state, and celebrities with the same flair he uses when consulting for many of Toronto's finest floral shops and event studios. Often referred to as the ‘floral industries own Simon Cowell’, his wit, humour and affable manner keep him in demand.
