International Certification for floral judging now available
Written by Amanda Ryder
Last Friday, Canadian floral master Joel Marc Frappier, MFA, CAFA, received notification from the World Flower Council that the International Floral Art Brevet Judge License and Certification produced under his expertise was officially sanctioned by the World Flower Council. He was named to the position of International Chief Head Judge by the Maître Fleuriste Agréé of Lyon France.

This is the very first international certification that will be offered to the elite judges in the floral communities throughout the world that wish to further perfect their skills and receive international licensing.

Frappier has prepared a manual and a technique that has long been awaited for by the international floral community. Not yet in existence, standardized judging is of paramount importance in the industry. The new IFA Judging process and marking score will see the judges start from full number or scoring allotted with a deduction in digit or number for each obstruction to the expression of high standard of floral art design. This process will also ensure that the quality of candidates’ use of high standard workmanship and technical talents will be rewarded accordingly and on its own merit. The newly sanctioned IFA judging process will evaluate and test the candidates’ depth of floral knowledge (which will be transposed in his/her work) and floral art skill, and will be marked as such. ''The innovative code of points is essential to the credibility of the industry of floral art that, as far as possible, judging is marked in a uniform way and to a common set of standards and expectations,'' says Frappier.

Frappier will give the examination as the Chief International Judge in January 2010 in Toronto. He is the first international judge to be named to this position by the MFA.
