Flowers Uncut: Are you watching?
Written by Amanda Ryder
flowersuncutNov. 16, 2009 - Reality TV has found the floral industry. Flowers Uncut with Jeff Leatham premiered Nov. 4 on TLC and airs every Wednesday at 10 p.m. The show follows the U.S. floral designer, who's created arrangements for celebrities and served as artistic director of the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris, as he and his team prep for large scale events and weddings.

Are you watching the show? Why or why not?  If you are tuning in, what are your thoughts on Flowers Uncut? Is it helping to promote the industry? Post your thoughts below.

This is the large-scale event floral business. What you're talking about is floral shop work. Two completely different beasts but both equally important to our industry. This may not depict what your world is like on a day to day basis but it's offers an accurate glimpse of the large-scale event floral industry. Granted, some scenes are dramatized for TV and ratings but what's important to recognize here is that we finally have someone representing our industry in a good time slot where the world and the young people will recognize that florists can and do make a living and have fun doing it.

I fell asleep 15 minutes into the first espisode. Haven't been able to watch it since I am usually in bed because I am usually up at 5 am every day.

I record every episode and this week I ended up with two episodes of "I Didn't Know I was Pregnant" instead.
I enjoy the show but we do not have the budget these guys have. I preferred Petal Pushers

I too am always excited when we can expose the general public to the beauty and creative process involved in the day to day happenings in the flower shop. But I am disappointed that the show chooses to create unreal situations for dramatic results. (In the first episode when he is given 2 days to go to Korea and has a fit because he cant find enough purple hydrangea.) I always welcome any excuse to talk about flowers and if this show provides that opportunity then it's good for us as professional florists committed to the betterment of our industry.

I think he is a creative designer; however, I find that he uses the same base to his designs and event concepts. I think a little broader spectrum of ideas to personalize each event would create a more interesting show. I see the same thing over and over again on each episode.

I agree with the comment made by"Goolds" in that this doesn't represent the reality of a "flower shop"; however, I don't think he is trying to portray himself as a storefront type of business, but more of a special event designer.

I just think that anything on tv is a skewed perception of "reality."

We have all watched this show and our united thought is... It's easy when given these huge budgets to wow everyone. We would love to see what creative centrepiece he could create with a more realistic budget. That's where the talent is truly seen in a designer.

Although I have watched it a couple of times and I enjoy anything showing flowers, this is still not about the reality of a real, straight-out with deadlines, phone ringing off the hook, flower processing and delivery time restraints type of flower shop. I hope that the average person watching these types of shows, don't think that is our real world.
