On Oct. 3, 2009, Gala 2009 was held at Kirby Floral/Signature Floral
Supply in Burnaby, British Columbia. The design featured Kevin
Ylvisaker AIFD, who was sponsored by Smithers-Oasis.
It also showcased B.C.’s newest 2009 AIFD Inductees, Yukari Mitsui AIFD, CPFD and Louisa Lam AIFD, CPFD. The annual event this year was staged in a fast-paced, highly entertaining runway show format. The audience enjoyed an up-close and personal look at fantastic bridal bouquets and holiday designs carried down the runway by gorgeous models. The grand finale of the show had all the designers and the production team (from Design 358) on stage decorating a large Christmas banquet table to a classic Christmas tune.
The two days following the GALA, ‘Today’s Brides... 2010’ hands-on workshop was hosted by Design 358 Center for Professional Floral Education. The instructors were Kevin Ylvisaker AIFD and Hitomi Gilliam AIFD. The students enjoyed a great opportunity to learn the latest trends, styles and mechanics for the upcoming bridal season.
GALA 2009 brought the West Coast florist community together to be educated, entertained and socialize. Good times were had by all.
