June 16, 2010 - Small businesses like yours may often be seen as the lifeblood of the community. Your shop is a place where locals shop for family and friends, a place where they gather for special sales and events and a place they look to for support when they need it. No doubt you receive numerous calls throughout the year from people requesting either monetary or floral donations, fundraising help or sponsorships.

What promotions, fundraisers or events do you take part in at your shop? Comment on our blog to share your strategies and ideas or email your thoughts to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

'My' company, Thrifty Foods, is incredibly supportive of the communities in which its stores are located. 'My' store, #18 in Tsawwassen, Delta, B.C. donate flowers twice a week to Delta Hospital. We clean all our coolers on Sundays and Wednesdays, scrub all buckets and pull all less then perfect inventory. Everything that is not quite up to our very high freshness standards is donated to our local hospital.

At the hospital the flowers are received by a team of volunteers that turn them into arrangements for different parts of the facility such as the reception desk, extended care and more.

This is great P.R. for our company at the same time as it spreads cheer and joy to people that sometimes don't have much to cheer about. Thanks to the volunteer team and Thrifty's community spirit our hospital and all its patients benefit.
