Tracy Bell, CPFD

An avid art student, Tracy Bell naturally progressed to floral design while still in high school. Twenty-four years later, she is the owner of La Belle Fleur Floral Boutique Ltd. in Surrey, B.C., which opened in 1997. The shop, renowned for its consistent quality and exceptional customer service, has won numerous local people’s choice awards over the years, as well as the Surrey Board of Trade’s Business Excellence Award in 2008. Tracy is the past president and current educational director of the Canadian Professional Floral Designers’ Association. She loves the dynamic nature of the floral industry and she and her staff attend as many design shows and seminars as possible to keep on trend and current. “We enjoy learning and this industry is ever-changing, so it’s always exciting! We truly love what we do and I believe our customers feel our sincerity and appreciate our knowledge and the care we take with them.” Tracy’s approach to this design portfolio is from the point of view of a designer who is also an owner.

PURPLE PRINTEMPS
Purple is consistently a favourite choice in our shop. Since colour plays such an important role in decision making for customers, why not make it easy for them? Individually bundled mini bouquets of freesia, irises, anemones and Moon Series carnations come together to create an irresistible monochromatic design set in a cylinder vase. A banding of aubergine ribbon is dressed up with a gorgeous filigree heart bouquet buckle. If this is for a Valentine’s engagement, offer to use the buckle in the bride’s bouquet!

UNITY DESIGN
Red and white roses symbolize unity and are a popular colour combination for Valentine’s Day. In this design, the concept is reinforced by the “joining of two hearts” attached by thin, red, metallic wire. The roses are nestled into ruffled elkhorn foliage and set into a sweet double vase in a washed wood framework. With this coming Valentine’s Day falling on a Monday, this is a perfect design for an office delivery!

ROSE SIMPLICITY
For the traditionalist, here’s an upscale version of one dozen red roses. The beautiful Freedom roses are set in a flared square vase accented with a collar of red beaded garland (this is a good time to use up any leftover Christmas product). The steelgrass repeats the vase’s shape and extends the vertical lines while keeping the design clean.

PERSONALIZED PAVE
Broken flowers are a fact of life, but they still cost the same as a full stem. They must be utilized and a pave design is the perfect way to incorporate them. In this interpretive pave design, rich shades of red, burgundy and purple create a lush frame for the whimsical musical scale. What you put into the centre of this design is up to you. The ability to personalize floral gifts will always set professional florists apart from big-box stores. Make sure your customers know what you can do!
