Jan. 6, 2011 - A new year brings a chance to reflect on what works in your business and what doesn't. Are you introducing a great new promotion or making big (or small) changes to your shop? Do you have a great idea that you think will drive more customers to your storefront or website? Tell us about it!

Send us your new strategy and we'll feature it in the Coast to Coast section of our next issue. You'll be able to read about what your fellow florists are doing and share your own tricks and tips.

I was glad to read the article on the top trends for 2011. It seems that random acts of kindness will be front and center as a top trend. We have a Pay it Forward program we run several times a year where our customers enter to win a bouquet for themselves and then get to choose someone else to give flowers to. It's been a huge success and it's just a lot of fun. People love to get flowers and I love to give them. It's just a little something we can do to hopefully make a bit of a difference in someone's day. This past week we gave out primroses to all our customers who came in that day. Sometimes it's a single carnation. After our long winter this bright spot of sunshine was very well received. Pay it Forward and make a difference. Let it not be just a trend.
