After making a life-changing decision to leave his previous career of 22 plus years in the film and television industry in Vancouver, B.C., David, along with his wife Kim, made a move from the suburbs of Vancouver to Salmon Arm, B.C. Having previously taken basic floral design courses, David knew this is where his passion lay, and set out to acquire his Floral Design Certificate in 2005. In 2006 David and Kim opened Salmon Arm Florist, a contemporary European-style florist. With a passion for all things natural, David has honed his design talent through various workshops and seminars with such inspirational talents as Hitomi Gilliam aifd, cfd Derrick Hollar, aifd, cafa and Paul Jaras, aifd to name a few. “Our philosophy is to learn something new every day,” says David. For this portfolio, David created designs for the prom and grad market.
Return of the Bolo
The Bolo is back! For this piece, the turquoise bouillon wire is braided to form the tie. The base of the design is picture matte, covered with eucalyptus and a brilliant purple phalaenopsis orchid. Green hypericum round out this exciting “new” idea.
Down to Earth
Naturally sophisticated, leucadendron petals cover this filigree overflowing with white waxflower. A stylish finish of silver bouillon wire wrapped with lime green beads completes the piece, which exudes a very earthy and natural feeling.
Matching Set
Inspired by the Shida, or fan shape, this design is created using picture matting covered in crinkled organza, finished with a mini phalaenopsis orchid and accented with twisted bouillon wire. This corsage easily works as a boutonniere too, allowing for companion pieces.
Bold and Blue
Clean, confident and chic – this boutonniere is precise with pizzazz. Strong vertical lines, relaxed by the fine metallic overlay, work to balance the bold presence of the delphinium.
Statement Stems
Make a strong, bold statement with this piece. Braided bear grass and hypericum coils frame a bronze cymbidium, giving this boutonniere movement and texture. This is not for the shy grad.
Flat Out 3-D
Apple green and bronze flat wire brings a strong, confident feel to this boutonniere. Red freesia and green buttons help to soften the hard flat wire with a perfect accent of the copper metallic wire that complements the finish.
