Finola L. Jones began her journey in the floral industry in Edmonton, Alta., in 1981, when she became a certified floral designer. She’s received training through Flowers Canada in Calgary and at the Ikebana Ohara School of Japan, also in Calgary. Over the years, Finola worked in a number of different flower shops, including Lakeview Flowers and Floralia Flowers, both of Calgary, and after making the move to Ontario, she was a wedding floral designer at Forget-Me-Not Flowers in St. Jacobs. Finola has also spent time teaching floral design at the Canadian Floral Academy in Mississauga. She’s now sharing her techniques and tips as a floral design trainer for Metro. Most recently, Finola was inducted as member of the Canadian Academy of Floral Art in October 2011. For this portfolio, Finola created designs under the theme of interior design.

Exotic Luxury
The inspiration for this design comes from the Art Deco period of the 1920s and 1930s – I am fascinated with sleek, geometric shapes. Silver midelino sticks were used to hang the diamond chain and I also used aluminum wire to make the attachments for the parts that hang down. As far as flowers used, ginger adds to the exotic feel of the design. The purple dendrobium orchids allow the eye to travel in a circle back to the pink roses, adding a soft texture next to the vase.

Fire and ice
This arrangement uses sweeping curved lines to catch the eye. The midelino sticks provide height and anchor the brushed silver vase in this design. Pewter, wired balls are wrapped around the cut ends of the ginger flowers and the balls shine brightly, reflecting light. Fire and ice roses add a combination of colour to this design and create harmony.

Tropical Escape
Sleek and luxurious aspidistra leaves give this design a grand gesture of space. Warneckii cuttings and red ginger add excitement, while yellow and burgundy dendrobium orchids draw the eye to the yellow roses, the design’s focal point.
