Local florist safest option on Valentine's Day
Feb 5, 2012 - When love is in bloom, many rely on the traditional symbol of thoughtfulness – the bouquet – to convey feelings for that special person. But be aware that online florists are not always reliable. If the flowers that are actually received by your loved one are inferior to the arrangements promised, or not delivered at all, it can be a wilting experience.

According to an article in the Wichita Eagle, poor quality flowers are only one possible dilemma facing Valentine's shoppers using unseen web florists. Scammers may send shoppers e-mails saying that the flowers ordered cannot be delivered unless they log in to their site and re-enter their credit card information. These e-mails are sent out in large numbers hoping to eventually find the inboxes of someone who has really sent flowers to a sweetheart. They are playing on consumers’ emotions by planting the fear that the bouquet may not reach the intended and that person will feel forgotten on Valentine’s Day. The article warns shoppers that if they think the message may be legitimate, to call the florist or go to the florist’s website using the original site from which they ordered rather than using the link on the e-mail.

The article concludes that the best way to assure that flowers reach a consumer's beloved just as ordered is to rely on a local florist. A website devoted to uncovering florist scammers can be found at floristdetective.com.
