June 1, 2012, Columbus, OH — Snips and stems will fly during the OFA Florist Design Contest as top florists compete for the OFA Designer of the Year title.
The theme for this year's contest is "Home Improvement." On July 15, florists will design in three categories:
- Home as a Haven, crafting an organic design using a sheltering technique
- Home for the Holiday, creating a centrepiece celebrating the designer's favourite holiday
- Home DIY, crafting a unique design that includes a re-purposed item from the home
All contestants much check in their entries on July 15 between 7:45 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. The five competitors with the most cumulative points from all three categories will be announced at 12:45 p.m. Then, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., the finalists will compete in the Florist Design-Off.
The winner of each "Home Improvement" category and Design-Off will be announced at 4:45 p.m. that afternoon.
Category winners will each receive $100 and a "Tools of the Trade" package from FTD. The OFA Designer of the Year will also receive a BloomNet design course and travel and hotel accommodations to the National Alliance of Floral Associations' competition as the competing representative from OFA.
